AboutHeader

I’m a work-at-home mom, Christ follower, wife, writer, blogger, and Star Wars fan.

This blog is the mothership for all my various writing projects AND it’s devoted to anyone, primarily mothers, who want to:

  • Get paid to write

  • Monetize a blog

  • Work from home

  • Grow in their faith

  • Find a balance amidst the daily challenges of parenthood, business, and faith

If you fit any of these descriptions, I invite you to join my growing community by signing up for my newsletter. As a “Thank You,” you’ll receive my free gift, the “Blog Post Makeover” checklist. Use this 10-point checklist to polish every article you write.

I promise, no spam. Except maybe when that waffle iron shaped like the Death Star goes on sale again on Amazon. You’ll probably be hearing from me when that happens. You’ve been warned.

My April Freelance Writing Income Report – $2,799.70

By | May 11th, 2017|

I began my freelance writing career in 2015, making $5 per article or less. Those were the days of ghostwriting in content mills and guest posting on blogs for free. Since then, I've grown my [...]

Who am I?

I am a professional writer with a background in personal finance, a Christ follower, wife, and a mother of two beautiful children. Since this blog is devoted to motherhood, running an at-home business, and faith, I will share a little about why each are so important to me.

Motherhood
Shortly before my husband and I got married in 2011, we took Financial Peace University and figured out it was probably a good time to get our act together. A year and a half later, we paid off the last of our $22,000 in debt right before our daughter was born. When our son arrived in 2014, I retired from my banking job and became a full-time stay-at-home mom. That was one of the happiest days of my life. What a privilege it has been to stay home with the children. Even with the sleepless nights and dirty dishes, I wouldn’t trade it for the world. By 2015, I was ready to start a career in writing.

 Launching an At-Home Business
My full journey from hobby blogging to paid professional freelancing can be read here: “How to Become a Paid Freelancer.”

Here is a quick overview:

  • 2015 – Launched my first self-hosted blog about personal finance.

  • Began guest blogging and ghost writing for low paying gigs.

  • Discovered an online writing course called “30 Days or Less to Freelance Writing Success.” It taught me how to pitch editors, find paying gigs, create social proof, develop a portfolio, and add a “Hire Me” page to my website.

  • 2016 – I’m a staff writer for a number of websites, and I’ve been featured on The Huffington Post, Scary Mommy, Babble, The Penny Hoarder, LifeHacker, MapQuest, Her View from Home, and many others. Many of these victories are due to the principles learned in the writing course.

  • As 2017 approaches, I plan to publish my first eBook called “The Stay-At-Home Mom Blueprint” about my journey into becoming a stay-at-home mom and freelance writer.

Faith
I believe that faith is a daily relationship with my Creator God, not just something I do on Sundays. Every aspect of my life – motherhood, business, watching my friend’s kids, scrubbing dishes, marriage – ties in directly with worshipping and honoring Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior. That is why I have committed each word that I write to God, imperfect though they are.

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. – Colossians 3:17 NIV
